Job Description

In this role, you will serve as the first point of contact for new oncology patients, helping them prepare for their initial consult and easing anxiety during a critical transition. You’ll clarify the reason for referral, outline next steps, and empower patients to become engaged partners in their care.
Responsibilities
The position is located at the Ambulatory Oncology facility in Portland, OR. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with an initial orientation period of 3 weeks. The assignment length is 13 weeks, with a high likelihood of extension and potential for permanent placement. Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.

Job Description
Join the Ambulatory Oncology Navigation Team and bring complexity and variety to your nursing career. In this role, you will serve as the first point of contact for new oncology patients, helping them prepare for their initial consult and easing anxiety during a critical transition. You’ll clarify the reason for referral, outline next steps, and empower patients to become engaged partners in their care.
Responsibilities
- Engage with patients prior to their first oncology consult, primarily by phone and occasionally in person at their initial appointment.
- Prepare patients for their first visit by clarifying the reason for referral and expected outcomes, and outlining anticipated next steps for patients and families.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary appointments as needed.
- Track progress toward the first modality of care and ensure timely transitions.
- Identify and address barriers to care, supporting patients through initial transitions.
- Clarify expectations for tests and consultations, ensuring patients understand their purpose.
- Provide compassionate support to reduce anxiety and foster engagement with clinical teams.
- Current Oregon & Washington RN License.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
- Current OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) or BMTCN (Blood and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse) certification, or completion of required continuing education nursing contact hours per Commission on Cancer requirements.
- 3+ years of recent adult Hematology/Oncology nursing experience within the past 5 years, including hematologic malignancies.
- Experience in solid tumor oncology is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated professionalism, excellent communication, and reflection skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively on a team, provide and receive feedback, delegate, prioritize, and adapt in stressful situations.
- Recent ambulatory oncology care coordination experience preferred.
- Leadership experience, project involvement, or participation in shared governance preferred.
